Students from Arena Animation, Jayanagar, create unique, Award-winning lighting animation film
A small group of students from the Jayanagar, Bangalore centre of Arena Animation have created and developed a film called ‘Incredible India’. A lighting animation film, the film’s uniqueness comes from the fact that all the human structures & lighting have been done using LED and torch lights.
The film is 3 minutes long and was completed in December 2010. The film talks about India and Indianness - a quality of having diversity & unity at the same time. Because of the unique concept used, the film has gained excellent reviews and awards at ‘Animation Habba 2011’ and ‘Creative Minds 2010’.
Produced by Indira Gupta, the chief animators of the film are M. Magline Venu, Imran RA, Amith Debnath and Durga Prasad. In order to make sure the light effects came out as wanted, the background used was very dark. The movie was short using SLR cameras, LED lights and coloured paper. This method has not been used so far in any of the animation movies so the making of the film was largely done on a trial-and-error basis.
According to the Creative Head of Arena Jayanagar centre, “Location is the primary thing that we were focusing on. The darker the setting, the better the output in lighting animation. With the appropriate materials, we had to sketch the frame in the air and capture it while the shutter mode was on and the torch facing the camera.
“Like a toddler learning to walk, we really didn‘t have any previous experience of working on a light animation. So we were learning it as we were doing it. We have sent this movie to the Tourism Department of India and have uploaded it on various social networking sites.”
Kudos to Arena Animation students for yet another triumph!
