Arena faculty wins 2nd prize at Shortiz International Short Film Festival
Vadodara: Harshvardhan Singh, faculty at Arena Centre in Sayajigunj has won the 2nd prize at ‘Shortiz - The 5th International Online Short Film Festival’, held in California, USA in January 2010. His film - ‘Aftermath’ - was short-listed for the final round from among 250 entries from around the world.
The film deals with the consequences of drug addiction & has won him prize money of $500 & a 3-year global distribution deal to enter reputed short film festivals.
The results were on the basis of the average drawn on the total scores awarded by each jury member.
Singh, the writer, director & editor of ‘Aftermath’, says, “It’s not just the victim of drug addiction but also those close to the victim who equally suffer the consequences. In this 4.59-minute film, we focus on the aftermath of drug addiction & how it destroys the addict’s brother as well, even though he is not an addict.”
About the film:
The movie received encouraging & positive feedback from the jury members comprising prominent Hollywood media & film personalities.
The film is about a story of two brothers. It tries to underscore the devastating effects that drug addiction has - not only on the victim - but also his family. It is a story of two brothers who enjoy a very close bond with each other until the younger one falls prey to drug addiction. A monochrome tone was employed to reveal the isolation & darkness depicted in the story.
The film was shot within 15 days on a shoestring budget, using a simple Handycam. Also, the entire crew & cast are amateurs with no professional exposure.
