Creative Minds comes to Chennai
Chennai, September 23, 2010: On Thursday, 23rd September, Arena Animation hosted their flagship ‘Creative Minds’ event for the Chennai region. The event was conducted in the city’s Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Auditorium and saw the participation of 15 centres from Chennai & the rest of Tamil Nadu.
Arena students competed for prizes in the following categories:
- Graphics
- Stop motion
- 2D Short Film
- 3D Short Film
Jury
Jury members from the industry evaluated the works of the students. For Chennai, the jury included:
Prof. R.L. Mistry (ex-NID)
Consultant - Communication Design
Visiting Faculty - Animation and Graphics
Prof. Mistry has been teaching and guiding students for 35 years at the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad. Besides coordinating the Animation Education program at NID, from time to time, he has helped develop courses for animation film design.
Prof. Mistry has completed several professional animation film projects dealing with social issues, films for children and advertisement films.
In 1985, he received the President’s Award for his animation film ‘National Highway’ which focused on the ills of drunken driving. Currently, Prof. Mistry works as a Communication Design Consultant.
Yunus Bukhari, VFX Supervisor
Founder & Creative Director, Artery Animation & FX, Mumbai
Yunus Bukhari is a well-known name in the Animation & VFX industry and is considered one of India’s best VFX producers. He has been associated with high-profile Bollywood projects as well as TV series and commercials. He has worked on Bollywood blockbusters such as Koi Mil Gaya, Devdas, Rakht, Khel, Vinta Nanda's White Noise, AB Corp's Virudh and Vipul Shah's Waqt.
His TV projects include Josh and Saara Aakash. He is presently working on the VFX for the live-action cum animation film ‘Toonpur Ka Superhero’. This film will be the directorial debut of award-winning animation expert Kireet Khurana.
Yunus Bukhari has executed Visual Effects and Animation for many Indian & international films, commercials & TV productions. Under his banner Artery Animation & FX, he now plans to develop his own content for both, films and television.
About Creative Minds
Creative Minds is an inter-centre students’ competition. In keeping with the format of these events, all Arena Animation centres in a particular region receive intimation of the upcoming competition 45 days in advance. Participating students get approximately a month of time to plan for - and execute - their projects.
During Creative Minds, the shortlisted projects are showcased to industry experts and the best ones emerge the winners.
Thus, students get a chance to attend seminars and workshops conducted by senior representatives from the animation industry and also to have their own work critiqued and judged by these industry people. Creative Minds always presents a great opportunity for Arena Animation students to interact and build ties with the animation industry.
