How is this Program different from others?
  Arena’s Postgraduate Program in Animation is designed in collaboration with
the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol, UK. The Program focuses
on research, knowledge exchange through industry interaction and on hardcore
professional practice. It involves research and partnerships with animation experts
and projects with top animation studios. Led by faculty from Arena and UWE,
students will investigate, test and analyze various fields of research in animation,
understand the commissioning and practices of the business in India and abroad,
and test various theories, approaches and practices in visual culture and communication.
Who is the Program meant for?
  Arena’s Postgraduate Program in Animation is the ultimate option for ambitious
animators. It aids career development through intensive focus on research and
training. The 18-month Program curriculum is designed by Arena in collaboration
with the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol, UK and has been
validated by animation industry experts.
What are the eligibility criteria?
  The Program is for highly-motivated, creative candidates with experience in the industry.
Applicants need:
 
One or more years of professional experience in the animation industry
 
A graduate’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university
What is the selection procedure?
  Candidates who meet the minimum eligibility criteria appear for an Aptitude Test at
AICAR, Neral, near Mumbai on September 6 & 7, 2008, between 11 am & 2 pm. Those
who pass the Aptitude Test attend the Personal Interview & showcase their work
portfolio in the first week of September 2008. The Final List of selected candidates
will be put up on September 25, 2008.
What is the pattern for the Aptitude Test?
  The Aptitude Test of 3-hours duration will be held at AICAR on September 6 & 7, 2008.
The Test consists of 4 sections including drawing/ sketching as well as multiple-choice
questions.
How many students will we have in a class?
  The total intake for this Program is 50 students.
Where will the Program be conducted?
  This is a residential Program that will be conducted at the Asian Institute of
Communication & Research (AICAR), Neral (at the foothills of Matheran hill station
near Mumbai). The AICAR campus is spread over 30 acres of picturesque natural
surroundings and has over 1.25 lakh square feet of constructed area that includes a
full-fledged animation studio, academic classes, library, student hostels, cafeteria,
residential quarters for the full-time faculty, gymnasium, convenience store, Internet
labs, etc.
Why is Arena offering this Program at AICAR?
  AICAR is a state-of-the-art WiFi-enabled campus with 24-hour Internet access on
bandwidth of 512 KBPS. The Institute houses a well-stocked library with books,
journals and CDs on animation, a well-equipped gymnasium, a convenience store
offering stationery, toiletries, photocopy & printing facilities, etc. The campus also
hosts indoor games such as table tennis, pool, carrom, chess, and others.
What kind of studio does AICAR have?
  The on-campus studio consists of an Art Studio, 2D Animation Lab, Digital Lab, Media
Centre & Library, Green Screen Hall & Acting Area, Motion Capture Studio, Sound
Recording Room, Video Editing suites, Screening Room and Seminar Hall.

The Art Studio is to be utilized for Life Sketching, Clay Modelling & Claymation, Stop Motion
& Experimental Animation and Photography classes.
Who are the Faculty conducting this Program?
  The Faculty for Arena’s Postgraduate Program in Animation constitute practicing artists,
animators and academicians of national & international repute. A dedicated team of
professionally-qualified lab assistants provides excellent support for workshops and
in the studio. Specialist visiting lecturers from major industries and design studios
enrich the program.
Does Arena offer placements at the end of the Program?
  The 18-month Program includes a compulsory 3-month Studio Internship with top animation
studios. For campus recruitments at AICAR, Arena will bring in top animation studios and
production houses.
What are the tuition and other fees for the Program?
  The academic fee for the 18-month Postgraduate Program is Rs. 5.5 lakhs - payable
in easy installments
. Hostel accommodation charges are Rs. 118,500 for 15 months
(excluding 3 months of off-campus studio internship).
Does Arena offer assistance for an education loan for the Program?
  Yes, Arena assists in availing education loans from banks, subject to the procedure
defined and terms and conditions laid down by the bank. The Program fees can also
be paid in easy installments.
When does the Program start?
  The last date for submission of completed Application Forms is August 31, 2008. This
will be followed by the Aptitude Test on September 6 & 7, 2008, at AICAR, Neral, near
Mumbai. The list of selected candidates will be announced after a Personal Interview
(with portfolio showcase) in September. The Program commences on October 6, 2008.
Do current and ex-students of Arena get any benefits?
  Yes, current students of Arena as well as Arena alumni get:
 
15% discount on Program fees: Arena students or Arena alumni who fulfill the entry criteria and get selected can avail an inaugural discount of 15% on the tuition fee (no discount on hostel charges).
 
Scholarships: Arena offers one 100% scholarship and two 50% scholarships on tuition fees only to current students of Arena/ Arena alumni. Candidates who receive the scholarship will be selected by the Admissions Committee and their word will be final in this regard.
